CARS THAT FLY
THE WEEK (2007) 5/25
40-41) THE WEEK has gathered all the predictions made about what life would be like by turn of the century, the 21st century. The forecasts were made by futurist and scientists in the 40's and 50's. So let's see what they had to say. WE CAN FLY AROUND WITH A SPACE BELT. It was tried and tried and new innovations occurred but it just didn't work. Most propulsion systems would jerk the person into the air and then they would fly for a short while and land and injure themselves. So far, nothing works. WE COULD FLY IN CARS Well no it didn't quite happen NASA has the closest approximation and that is still off the mark. Incidentally, do you want a lot of cars flying, running into each other, and plowing into someone's house? Cars were made to travel on water, but that was not very popular so they tanked. TELEPORTING Well yes, you can teleport elementary particles across the room like a photon from one end of the room to another. How about moving people? Nope. FOOD PILLS There are variations of this. However, as this is being written, there is not a pill one can take that gives you enough to be full or even cut weight. It is not ready for retail. RAY GUNS Yes, there are laser guns in the experimental stage. X-RAY GLASSES Now you can take a look at that beautiful person across the room. Nope .There are scanners to see if you are carrying a weapon, but nothing in eye glasses.
MEET THE BEATLES
This is the 40th anniversary of SGT. PEPPER, from the fab 4 (and 2 are still alive). The band sells about 280, 000 CD'S a month. The only other bands that approach them are the ROLLING STONES and THE BEACH BOYS that came from the same era..
U.S. NEWS &WORLD REPORT (5/28)2007 EE12 There is a hotel in Italy of which they have a room for 676 dollars a night. You can a view of the lake and the ceiling RETRACTS so that you can see the night. Hopefully, it is isn't raining. SHUTE (67-68) ALL TOGETHER NOW. THE FOOD THAT YOU EAT IS NOT INSPECTED. That applies to 99% of your food that comes from all around the world .Further, 300,000 Americans become ill in a year due to food poisoning and 5,000 die. If you want to have safer food, you must elect a president and congress that will increase taxes so that there are more inspectors. 72) VERTICAL FARMS This has been tried before. There are articles that go way back to the 70's one that came from the conservative NATIONAL REVIEW. At any rate, it still seems like expensive farming that would not be profitable. However in some big cities like the big apple growing crops and using the 1.4 million gallons of waste water that New Yorkers use every day makes the proposition more likely.
TIME (5/28) 2007
31-42) Al Gore is probably not going to run for president and he is not all the excited about politics. In his new book ASSAULT ON REASON, he lambastes the election process. The media spends so much time on trivia rather than the issues of each candidate that most is lost. Additionally, an elected candidate must spend much of their time raising money for the next election. The money buys ads to help smear the other candidate or defend oneself. There are better ways and you can choose a model from another democracy. RAWE (59-60) STUDENTS CHEAT. They cheat when they do a term paper. They buy it on the internet. Then they hand it in. Then faculty take the papers and have them checked by an internet company that will survey, scan, archive 100,000 papers a day. Now that they have the term paper they then tell the faculty member who cheated. However, they also take all the term papers and SELL them to another company that sells term paper. At this time, there is approximately 40 million term papers available. Now some students want to sue the companies for using their original term papers that were vetted by the internet and found to be acceptable. How about that? |
