Boomer Bust

FINEMAN (2006) 1/23/ 52-61

The Boomers didn't do any better than any other generation and not as good as Tom Brokaw's

THE GREATEST GENERATION. That takes 9 pages. Fineman an excellent journalist and television talking head wishes it were better. Where are we going? We are adrift. The economy is struggling with massive debt and we are in a long, long war.

Fineman blurs the generations. The depression / world war 2 generation did get things done. However, they were followed by the SILENT GENERATION. Fineman skips over them. As a member of that generation, we were well overwhelmed. We don't have much to show for it.

Then came the Boomers. They were news unto themselves because they were so big. How they happened is that after 46' America was the industrial giant of the world with few or no competitors.

Most were in tatters. Although the CIA reported otherwise, even Russia (USSR) was a third world economy with a first world set of weapons. As America prospered, American families had one extra child. The third child made the Boomers big. Essentially, they were a flash in the pan. They quickly emerged and disappeared into the world of work. Other than the far left, they worked to create a Sweden and got Brazil. The Boomers now are working toward a 21st century economy

based on policies that pre-date Roosevelt. That is Teddy Roosevelt and his trust busting of monopolies. They also want to get rid of any tax on ownership wealth including dividends and related. Thus, a regressive tax should burden the middle class as wealth is flushed up to the rich.

It was a long strange ride. We were jerked to the Left and then for the last 30 years or so, jerked to the Right. Come on baby, light my fire.
