CAN HILLARY BE STOPPED? Podhertetz, J. (2006) Can she be stopped? NY: Crown Forum
This is a book for Conservatives, Republicans, and Democrats who believe that Hillary can win the primaries and vastly lose the general election. In many ways it is the Republicans that can feel warm and secure that she can win the Democratic Party because in trial runs with likely Republicans, she loses by 10 to 20 points in the general election. In other words, it is a landslide for the Republican Party. Republican knows how to win the presidency and have done so in 7 of the last 10 elections.
The author first spends four (4) chapters indicating why she can win. Although she has high negatives, Margaret Thatched did too and she won handily. Additionally, she is not too liberal. As a Senator from New York State, she has a moderate image and has steadfastly supported the war. He husband will also campaign for her.
Further, a woman can now win an election for the Presidency. Numerous countries have elected women and the USA will soon follow. Last, she is not well liked. So what? If she appears competent, consistent, and does an Oprah show, she can become at least a bit more likable. In other words, she is a tough broad and can scare the residue out of other potentates. She also knows how to kick some one’s privates in a very sweet way.
However, if folks are sick and tired of Bush Cheney, they will really get nauseated when Hillary and Bill hit the road. The Clinton fatigue will set in and the Republicans should have a good time of it. With Hillary, Bill, Al Gore, and the anti-Charmer John Kerry, Republicans can mop up.
There is also a general fatigue in the country moving from Clinton to Bush was exhausting and there was 9/11 and Katrina. Conservatives have won battle after battle, but it is exhausting. Thus a Clinton bid can re-energize the troops through their hate of her.
Both parties are in a crisis. The Democrats are trying to survive and the Republicans want to get rid of domestic welfare programs like the seniors drug plan, social security, and Medicare. In other words, they really want a true conservative that can get is back to the 1920’s. Without federal legislation to protect the poor, working poor, and some blue collar types, they die off and we are all better off. However, the party is deconstructing. Bush’s ratings are better, but they are still in the toilet and a lot of crooks of the Republican variety are in the papers.
Further, because Conservative can no longer trust Justice Kennedy, we need at least 2 more conservatives to add to Alito and Roberts. That provides a winning majority for all conservative causes.
The Republicans must continue to win because the grassroots folks are conservative Evangelical Protestants. After all their hard word since 1980, what do they have to show for their work? Are school vouchers in conservative Christian academies law? No. Has abortion been overturned? No. Are the Ten Commandments in all schools? No. Does school have prayer during the beginning of classes? No. Is creationism being taught in schools? No. So, the Republican Party needs much work to help these folks. All that is really happened is that the Rich have gotten richer.
Further, the public might go for a Republican lite party called the Democrats, but if Hillary gets elected she’ll bring with her the Looney Left. She nearly nationalized health care in 1993. That is not really that long ago.
